For some odd reason the net feed for Five Live Sports Extra is not working but Radio 4 Long Wave is. For some odd reason 4LW uses a different audio codec from 5LSE. I can't think of a single good reason for that.

It's easier to have a distinct Radio 4 Long Wave feed running all the time than to force it to opt in and out of the Radio 4 FM feed at the right time.

Lest we forget, the "normal" configuration is for four LW opt-outs (8.32-9.00, 9.45-9.59, 12.00-12.04, 17.54-17.57) per day.
