In which our hero ventures forth and meets people

So, yesterday morning I nervously sniffed the crisp autumn air outside the lair and ventured forth to meet the in-transit [livejournal.com profile] frumiousb. The plan was to meet up for a coffee before she and her party embarked on the near legendary high speed ferry to Rochester. The [livejournal.com profile] frumiousb and her partner were delightful but unfortunately the Toronto International Passenger Ferry Terminal is the only ferry terminal, bus station, airport, railway station or spaceport in the entire galaxy that doesn't have a coffee stall or similar so coffee wasn't to be. Still, it was a very nice walk to and from the docks on a bright sunny morning.

Not content with meeting Real Live Peopleā„¢ once in a day, [livejournal.com profile] lemur_catta and I hied ourselves chez [livejournal.com profile] metalana for an evening of drinks, snacks and Scrabble with assorted persons who were awfully nice etc. There was one young lady from rural BC who was very well behaved and didn't start gnawing the table leg every time the tap was turned on. In fact no trees were cut down all evening. We returned shortly after midnight without me, against all expectations, turning into a pumpkin.

I think it's still quite a marginal enterprise. It seems to be mainly used by tourist coach parties who want to include a day or two in the Finger Lakes area as well as up state New Yorkers coming across for the theatre etc.

The catamaran itself is rather impressive though.
