Literary Botticelli again

OK! So I won the last round chez [livejournal.com profile] ironed_orchid with my l33t LB skills and, as any fule noe, breaking the eternal chain of LB results in all kinds of dire consequences like not really getting 25 trillion Euros from the Libyan government (or BAE). Thus I get to host the next round.

In-depth directions for the game can be found here on [livejournal.com profile] kinetikatrue's page. It's laid out pretty nicely, so I suggest you go read and come back. But basically, the question you ask must be specific enough that I can answer confidently with a particular author or character (as in, "no, I'm not Elizabeth Bennett"). If I don't get the reference, you get to ask a more general question that can be answered with a yes or no, such as the person's sex, age, nationality, etc.

One question at a time, please. This means wait until I have answered the previous person's question before you post your own.

If you haven't played before please read through the LJ specific rules before you ask your question.

For this round, my name starts with "C".

I am a fictional character. I am English and of the 20th century. My creator is dead and was not female. I am a family man, eventually. I am not Charles Carruthers, Gordon Comstock, Gerard Crich or Dr. Cornelius.

[livejournal.com profile] coyotegestalt is very clever and successfully worked out that I am Guy Crouchback from Evelyn Waugh's Sword of Honour trilogy.

Did you once invade Britain?

I am not Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus nor am I Gaius Julius Caesar.

Did you write detective fiction featuring Philip Marlowe?

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I am not Raymond Chandler

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Were your exploits recorded in two books by Elmore Leonard, and made into movies where you were played by John Travolta?

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
And that would make me?

Have a follow up.

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Not Chilli Palmer then?

Are you a fictional character?

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I am a fictional character

Did you occupy a set of ground-floor rooms in the quad of Hertford College?

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not but I don't know who does.

Enlighten me and ask a supplementary

Your best friend is at Christ Church. Or rather not, since that wouldn't be you.

Does this rate as "supplementary", or is a supplementary a question on another fictional character whose name starts with C?

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
You have to tell me who I'm not; ie the character you were driving at in the initial question. You also get to ask me a yes/no question such as "Are you Polish?"

[identity profile] shezan.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You're not Charles Ryder. Are you English?

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspected you meant Mr Ryder. However, within the meaning of the act, he is an 'R' not a 'C'. However, I am English.

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
And for the record, Chilli Palmer is a 'P' not a 'C'

[identity profile] shezan.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I took my cue from "Chilli Palmer", which I now must understand is not a first-last name combo.

Hmmm. You got me stumped now. Shall have to monitor your answers to others.

[identity profile] shezan.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Aaaaaaaahhhhhh. OK.
ext_1059: (Default)

[identity profile] shezan.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
... why the "I am not Chilli Palmer" line, then?

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, the Scot got it wrong too but I was too dozy to pick it up

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
because I'm dozy

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Look at me.

I get that.

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, we kind of rely on that from the English...

[identity profile] intertext.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you compiling a key to all mythologies?

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not. Who would that be etc

[identity profile] intertext.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! So you're obviously not the Rev. Edward Casaubon (from Middlemarch).

Is your author female?
