La Fille du Regiment

It lived up to the hype. Natalie Dessay was wonderful. She's a great singer of course but she's also a wonderful comic actress and gives off so much energy. Juan Diego Flórez was perfect as Tonio and the supporting cast was wonderful too. The whole production was fast paced, beautiful, touching and, above all, very, very funny. Everybody involved was obviously having loads of fun and that communicated to the audience. I really don't think anyone who saw this production would be able to claim that opera is difficult or inaccessible.

And they were selling the DVD for less than $20. Score!

Damn you, I'd convinced myself that I wasn't going to give in to the temptation of going to the opera tomorrow, and I was going to do work all day instead, since I was busy all day today.

And you just went and crumbled my resolve with one post.

Did he encore the 9 high Cs?

(Still searching for a ticket to this production...)

Excellent! It had all the makings of an absolutely splendid night; I'm glad that it really was. I was too late to get tickets for this season, but, after the reports from you, I'm definitely going to go to some next time round...

Jealous.

What a fantastic cast!
