chickenfeet: (rugby)
I got my Xray results today, The good news is that nothing is cracked and the discs are OK. The not so good news is that I have spurring and degenerative damage to the C5/6/7 vertebrae and that if I want to keep the use of my left arm rugby is not a terribly good idea.

So I am now, officially, an ex rugby player.

ETA: There's no reason to suppose the neck problem originated with rugby. It may well have been started by my near fatal car crash in 1979 or by many other things. Also, although I'm disappointed and would have liked to play for a few more years, I'll be 50 in a few months so I've had a pretty good run.

I'm not totally sure what is happening with my shoulder. There is still something neurological going on as sensation in my left hand is still non-standard. I'm not sure that 'numbness' is the right word anymore for it though. This morning the shoulder and upper arm area hurt like Hell in the diffuse way that is for a while now but over the course of the day the pain has moved and concentrated in my neck, behind the collarbone under the trapezoid. I can get a couple of fingers in and massage it like a pressure point. I'm pretty sure that is where the root of the problem is which means I likely twisted something when I played hooker for Markham three weeks ago. I'm still not comfortable running because the vibration sends pins and needles all up my left arm still but there is clearly something happening in terms of a healing process. Calibrating, two weeks ago I was taking pain killers every four hours day and night. Now I can get by on something like half that.

I seem to have buggered up my shoulder. Last Monday's feeling of being hit repeatedly with a rubber hammer has turned into something much more localised and painful. I think I may have pinched a nerve in my left shoulder. I had trouble sleeping last night despite rather massive amounts of Ibuprofen and on a couple of occasions I lost feeling in my left hand. It's still just a bit tingly. I'm not absolutely sure what to do about it. I doubt that there is anything a doctor can do and I don't currently have a tame physio and wouldn't be able to afford more than a couple of visits if I did.
