Film still quiz - again

You know the drill. Ten stills from ten movies. Name the flicks.

1230 EDT: As far as I can tell crappy Rogers/Geocities/Yahoo is FUBAR and won't serve up the pics. Service will be resumed as soon as they get their heads out of their arses.

1300 EDT: Seems to be working

Exhausted your data allocation thingy.

Yahoo/Geocities playing silly buggers. It's a technical fault at their end.

Can't see images, no guesses! (I tried the URLs but geocities says the data transfer allocation has been exceeded.)

Something experimental and arty?

[identity profile] popsock.livejournal.com 2005-10-14 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they are all from the art film "A Red Cross In The Middle Of A White Box". ;-)

Oh good, they're here!

No. 3 is that Bergman film about the big family and the father dies and the mother who's an actress marries a pastor and they have to be rescued by the Jewish uncle-type, and it's called after the children... um... Fanny and Alexander?

And No. 7 is Raise the Red Lantern, I think, when Gong Li is talking to the maid with aspirations to become a concubine.

The principle here seems to be that the brighter the colour, the more likely I am to make a guess!

Both correct

6. is From Russia With Love.

9 is either La Grande Illusion or All Quiet on the Western Front

Five is from one of my all time faves, "Jean de Florette." Hope you don't mind my popping in. Grading break meant surfing lj too much!

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2005-10-14 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
No worries. Jean de Florette is close but not quite.

Close? Does that mean Manon des sources?

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2005-10-14 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
mais oui

[identity profile] a-d-medievalist.livejournal.com 2005-10-15 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Argh. Now I have to see it again -- I was sure Cesar died at the end of J de F, but then I always watch them together ...

[identity profile] a-d-medievalist.livejournal.com 2005-10-14 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to say number 1 is from "The Dirty Dozen," but I can't remember if James Coburn is in it. My first thought was "The Great Escape," but I'm positive that's wrong.

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2005-10-14 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Neither guess is correct

I've been pondering No. 4, which looks like a youngish Alec Guinness, and am wondering if it might be Man in the White Suit?

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2005-10-15 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
correct

[identity profile] blonde222.livejournal.com 2005-10-15 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I dont believe it, I don't believe it, I've finally got one! Number 10 is the English Patient!!

[identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com 2005-10-15 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
correct!

Judging on uniform, 1 is either 'Cross of Iron' or 'Hell is for Heroes'.

2 is the requisite Jenny Agutter film that no one else has seen, but you probably own a copy.
