Top five holiday destinations

from [livejournal.com profile] badasstronaut

1. Chiang Mai. Lots to do. OK climate. Great food. Cheap.

2. Olympic Coast National Park. Fantastic hiking. The ocean. Wildlife. Solitude.

3. West Penwith (outside the tourist season!). Coastal hiking, terrific rock climbing, good pubs.

4. Northumbria and the Borders. The UK's hidden treasure. Lovely people, fantastic scenery, oozing history. And nobody goes there.

5. Quebec City. Fascinating city. Great restaurants. Excellent centre for day trips to some of the most beautiful places in Canada.

Enthusiastic endorsement of number four.

I definitely must check out the Northumbria at least.

Definitely! I only discovered the area last year, and it comes under the heading of Best Kept Secrets. It's like the nicest bits of the West Country, only nicer.

I'm loving exploring the UK, and there's so many places to explore! So far, I love Cornwall and Devon and Dorset and Sussex and Hampshire and Wiltshire and Somerset and Pembrokeshire and Snowdonia and Gloucestershire and Oxford and Cambridge and Edinburgh. I think I'm headed for Derbyshire in April.

Derbyshire will take you not far from where I live; I'm practically on the boundaries of Lancashire, Cheshire, Yorkshire and Derbyshire, and have done a fair bit of dancing in Derbyshire.

Number four is definitely in my list too. But should you be letting the secret out?

Oh, and another reason to go is that Rob Young, a Durham mate of mine, is now archaeologist for the Northumberland National Park.

I totally agree with # 5.
