This makes me insanely happy

Janey is doing what she does most mornings. She's curled up in my lap snoozing. A few minutes ago she was kneading my leg with her paws. This makes me quite insanely happy.

Apparently, cats knead because that is how they get their mothers to give them milk.

Our kittens rarely knead us, but they do knead a wide variety of cushions and throws and things!

Apparently, cats purr because kittens are born blind and deaf, and it's how they find their mother so they can suckle.

I met a cat once who had apparently been taken away from his mother too early, and though now several years old he tried to knead me and suck my breast at the same time, admittedly through a couple of layers of clothing. It was a curious experience.

As far as I know, Jane never had a chance to nurse with a real live cat mom. She's an orphan and bottle fed.
