Heavy rain closes fields in Toronto
Heavy rains have closed many of Toronto's rugby pitches for the second time in 2003.
Early this afternoon, all six pitches at Fletcher's Fields north of the city, were deemed unplayable. The city-owned Sunnybrook Park and Eglinton Flats were similarly closed.
On May 24th, another weekend of fixtures was lost to heavy rains: the Victoria holiday bye weekend was the week before that. Some Toronto teams have only played 3 matches a full six weeks into the season.
Talk about stoopid! Can you imagine how much rugby would get played in NZ or Ireland or Wales or England or Scotland (or even BC) if they cancelled games because of a bit of rain? Its not even that wet here. The only thing that's really wet are the people making the decisions. Its more important to them to keep the pitches nice than to let the lads (and lasses) play.
