'tis the season to chill out
Dec. 18th, 2003 09:26 amThe winter holidays have never been a big deal around here and became much less of a deal after
pigsnout000 and Kate moved to Australia. This year will be especially quiet as
lemur_catta is off to California to visit family. Essentially then, I will have a quiet week with just me and the bengals. I shall probably get some skiing in. I believe I have only once skied on Christmas Day. It would be about 15 years ago when I was living in Ottawa. My then wife was working a 6am shift at the hospital so I dropped her off at work and headed into the Gatineau. At 7am on Christmas morning I had, unsurprisingly, the trail to myself. It had snowed lightly overnight, the trail was pristine and the trees shone in the early morning sun. I'll take that over tinsel and forced jollity any time.
The other great benefit of non-celebration (apart perhaps from non weight gain) is total avoidance of holiday shopping. Every time I read an LJ about some poor soul having to fit shopping for thirty presents into their already impossible schedule I chuckle.
