What a day!
Aug. 20th, 2004 01:23 pmWhat an extraordinary day of cricket. The Windies must have thought that their luck had changed when they got Flintoff and Jones early on but every batsman in the England tail made runs and Harmison seemed almost to be making fun of the Windies bowlers as he made a flamboyant 36 n.o.. Then came the collapse of the Windies first innings. Only a visibly shaken and angry Lara put up any real resistance as Harmison tore the guts out of the Windies. Then we had Gayle hitting six fours off an over as the Windies tried to stage a comeback after following on but Harmison took another two wickets late on. 8 for 60 on the day! The final act of the drama was Lara, in perhaps his last test, declining to send in a night watchman and coming out himself to face Harmison in the gathering gloom.
Definitely one of the more dramatic day of cricket that I can recall.
