Ego and Faction

Is there any area of human activity that doesn't tend towards being ripped apart by ego based factionalism? In politics proper one expects it. The pursuit of real power by real egomaniacs is bound to turn out that way but is it of the essence that, say, Canadian rugby, should be equally prone to its baleful effects? Most every "community" I have been involved in, in RL or on the 'net has had this problem (and in many cases without me lighting any blue touchpapers). The latest is a serious of almost farcical tiffs in the fountain pen collecting world. Truly humans are weird.
