Katrina

New Orleans is a city I've always been fond of. I"ve had some good times there. Watching the news over the last 48 hours or so has been pretty hard. It's difficult to watch a place you know being devastated and I just have this feeling that the worst is yet to come. The hurricane may have done less damage than feared but there is going to be an awful lot of water coming down the Mississippi in the next few days and the flood defences are already creaking badly. I hope I'm being unduly pessimistic.

We should be making acquaintance with Katrina here about midnight tonight. 30mm of rain is forecast for the next 24 hours or so. It's easy to forget just how enormous an area a storm like this affects.

Gassing up

I paid over $1/litre for gas today for the first time ever in Canada. Just thought you'ld want to know.
