I went for a fairly gentle run this morning to see how my back would stand up to it. It wasn't too bad but there's still some stiffness and I think I'm only about 50/50 for Sunday. I also discovered that my left shoulder was quite stiff and sore. That shouldn't have come as a surprise. As I get older I find that wear and tear injuries sometimes take a day or two to become apparent and I might reasonably expect that the shoulder took a beating on Tuesday. It was that sort of game. We learned very early on that with a slippery ball and very aggressive defence by the Staff College backs we weren't going to go anywhere spinning the ball wide so we switched to a very direct "pick and go" approach up front so it was a lot of ball into contact, a lot of clean outs plus the usual defensive stuff. I think I tend to favour my left shoulder in most of those situations so I guess I just made a few too many hits with it. Anyway, the run seems to have loosened it up a bit.

You know the drill. Ten stills from ten movies. Name the flicks.

1230 EDT: As far as I can tell crappy Rogers/Geocities/Yahoo is FUBAR and won't serve up the pics. Service will be resumed as soon as they get their heads out of their arses.

1300 EDT: Seems to be working

Yes we have reached the stage where the kittens are hippity, hippity hopping like cartoon bunnies and getting much more confident about exploring the world despite the Wicked Bengal of the West hissing at them. (Leela reacts to kittens rather like a dowager duchess presented with someone else's very proletarian grandchild). In fact every time I open my office door I risk being trampled by a herd of stampeding kittens.

Pouncing is being worked on too. Yesterday saw a golf ball hunted down and despatched with great vigour. Naturally we have play fights too. One moment thre is one rolling squeeking ball of flying fur, the next all four sibs are curled up together in the kittie hammock.

Fat kitten is getting very cuddly and her eyes have turned brown. Wooly bear is probably the boldest and most venturesome. Slim, the little black guy, is quite quiet but loves to sit on my shoulder and the girl with the orange patch is usually the first to hit the food bowl.

What are the furthest points North, South, East and West you have visited?

Farthest north for me: Stockholm 59n20 18e05
Farthest south: Lake Te Anau, NZ 45s13 167e45
Farthest east: Napier, NZ 39s30 176e54
Farthest west: Papeete, Tahiti 17s30 148w30

Note: I chose to define furthest east and west as furthest from Greenwich.

These four points can be used to define a rectangle (well, in more-or-less spherical geometry they do) whose borders lie along the lines of latitude and longitude you have identified. What's at the centre of this region? Have you been there? Where is the nearest place to the centre you have visited?

To avoid this being utterly trivial I took the big rectangle rather than the very thin strip in the middle of the Pacific. The centre of the big rectangle is 9n55 13e42, roughly half way between Yola, Nigeria and Maroua, Cameroon. Unsurprisingly it's not a place I've been. The closest is probably Palma de Mallorca at 39n35 2e39.
