To Kultura with
lemur_catta for brunch. This is a relatively new place on King East that is so discrete in its exterior appearance one might easily miss it. We ate on the upstairs level in a really lovely room; bare dark brick and beams, hardwood floor, very high ceiling with skylights. The whole place is high concept. The wait staff were all in blue jeans and black polo shirts. The china is white, oversized and geometric. Fortunately the food lives up to the decor. I had truffled scrambled eggs which included some fresh herbs, green onion and cheese. There was a small but perceptible truffle flavour and the eggs weren't as overcooked as scrambled eggs so often are in Toronto. My poppyseed toast came with a crock of butter and some very tart cherry compote. The lemur had the French toast which was made with brioche and served with almond brittle, strawberries and whipped cream. It was a generous portion and very rich. The coffee was a good strong dark roast. Even the water came in pitchers with slices of assorted citrus fruit in them lending a faint but pleasant scent and taste to the water. The prices too are quite reasonable for the quality of the overall experience and the size of the portions. Brunch for the two of us was $30 plus tax and tip.
