I left home at 0930 this morning and only just got back. I had a game in Blackwater, Ont which i somewhere between Lake Simcoe and Lake Scugog and involved a 180km round trip. The game was Brock ladies vs Ajax ladies, a Toronto Women's "B" division game. It was the slowest game I have refereed to date. Partly this was a functon of the ball handling skills of the two teams (or, rather, lack of them) and partly due to the fact that i suspect I was one of the fittest people on the field. A temperature in the high 20s probably didn't help. It was all rather odd. Rucks were so slow and gently contested. Normally I'm trying to sort out bodies flying in from all over the place. The other thing I discovered; women rugby players cry when they get hurt. I have never seen a man cry on a rugby field (nor, I think from pain in any context).
