Your taxpayer's poonds at work

In case anybody still doubts just how absurd agricultural subsidies are:

John Dodd, the multimillionaire owner of the Glenogil shooting estate, in Angus, Tayside, has had his farming subsidy cut by £107,000 by the Scottish executive because of suspicions that the discovered pesticides were used against birds of prey on his land.

Over the past three years Dodd had received £829,664 in single farm payment subsidies for his farm at Glenogil.

Only in Canada

Truly this could only happen in Canada. In our riding (Toronto Centre) the Conservative candidate has been forced to drop out by his own party because his published views are seen as inflammatory. He wants to ban abortion, permit concealed handguns and abolish the reservation system for First Nations. Maybe he should run for VP of the US. No wait, can't do that he's gay!

Our NDP candidate is a black, gay Muslim. He has the highly unlikely name of El-Faroukh Khaki. I confidently expect the Green candidate to turn out to be Olive Drab or something similar.
