Holiday round up

pigsnout000 was here until the 28th which was fun. We did a lot of beer tasting. It's that male bonding thing.
Lots of good food got eaten. Christmas dinner worked out really well and the wine, Ch. Kirwan 1999, was brilliant. My eperience of Margaux is much more limited than, say, St. Julien or St. Estephe but I can see what the fuss is about. The Kirwan had bags of complex flavours but it also had that silky, feminine, seductive quality that is said to be characteristic of Margaux. It was lovely.
I managed to get a pretty bad cold around Boxing Day which kept me miserable and off running for several days. (The snow and extreme cold didn't help with the running).
Pretty much as soon as I started running again my right ankle went on strike. It's still pretty sore and I'm wearing a brace just so I can walk on it.
We had a very quiet NYE, retiring early with a Scotch and the Guardian crossword.
New Year's Day we went for dim sum in the afternoon with a largish crowd. It was fun and lots of good stuff got eaten.
Last night we finished off the party season with fondue and a bunch of fun, crazy people at Chico and Dys' place. My ankle prevented my participating in what looked like a very twisted game of Twister but I did have a conversation about Bayesian inference with someone whose PhD thesis was much influenced by the guy who taught me statistics. Small world.
