Going home

Sunday we moved out of the sublet andback into the Kitten Kondo. It was -37 with the windchill when I went out to pick up the van and only warmed up a little bit during the course of the day. It took three trips and I did most of the loading/unloading. That much work in extreme cold was hard. By the end of the day I was suffering from serious cramps in my hands and forearms. We went out for dinner but on the way home I was coughing so hard I vomited. A fun day.

The bedroom is finished bar the blinds which we need to order. It's really nice but everything else was a little bit behind. Monday was a holiday so we just sort of hung out at home. I have the iMac and a network set up so entertainment is possible but we had no means of cooking or even heating water for a drink. Yesterday progress was made on the kitchen. The backsplash is all done and the stove is installed again, also the microwave so now we can do simple stuff. Pretty much all our crockery and cutlery is still buried somewhere in the basement storage unit though.

The other big thing yesterday was bringing the furniture and appliances back from off-site storage. That went quite well but a lot of stuff (most of it) is just stacked in the middle of the living room waiting for other stuff to be finished.

There are always snags. We ran into several problems in the bathroom that have caused delays so we still don't have the main bathroom functioning. I reckon that's still 2-3 days away. This means taking a shower involves going down to the pool area. Also no laundry as yet. I will probably use the building laundry room today before I run out of clean underwear. There was a problem installing the fridge too. That, and installing the range hood and under vanity lights are about all that still remains there though. Maybe then I can do some cooking. There is also still some work to do in the office. In other words we really aren't done. Also we have no doors. They are still on order.

Lack of doors means we need a fairly elaborate cat proof barricade to keep them away from the working areas. It's basically camp in the bedroom during the day. Jane has been very subdued, mostly hiding in her pillow fort during the day. She has started to explore a bit at night and did eat last night. Padmini is back to normal. Leela is completely manic. We need to find a way of keeping her off the kitchen counters. She actually jumped onto a hot stove today but fortunately wasn't hurt.

Onward and upward!
