The Sunday of the long weekend was draggy and we were getting fed up of the screaming engines of death over the harbour (though frankly not nearly the worst it's been) so much frantic searching of various "what's on" resources took place.  Black Lab had a pop up BBQ from a BBQ place that sounded fairly decent so that's where we went.

Good choice!  Although the barrel aged cherry saison that we were hunting for had already sold out they had a pretty interesting Juniper Heffeweizen.  I went with the DDH IPA which was excellent.  The BBQ guy was on his own and a bit slow getting going.  Oddly he looked and sounded exactly like Ainsley Wassisname from the UK cooking shows.  That very distinctive west London West Indian accent.

It was worth the wait.  We got the smoked pork ribs and the smoked pork butt.  (There was chicken too).  There was a vast mound of beautiully smoked and sauced meat on each plate with very generous helpings of rice and peas and slaw.  It was actually quite difficult to carry both plates.  Oh yeah, $20 plate, tax in!  Needless to see we still had a largish take out container's worth when we left.

Black Lab is interesting.  It may be Toronto's only dog friendly brewery.  It seemed that, besides the eponymous Black Lab, almost everybody had brought at least one dog.  The place was packed.  Adults, children, dogs.  Actually unlike anything I've seen in a Canadian drinking establishment.
