London and stuff

I don't have anything original to say about the bombings this morning in London. I used to work summers in the City during sixth form and uni and I spent a summer at UCL so I know some of the affected areas pretty well. I also understand that Londoners have been living with the threat of bombs from one set of loonies or another for as long as I can remember and I know it will take a Hell of a lot more than what happened today to affect the essential resilience of London and its people.

What I do wonder about though is what is up with the Intelligence services? Despite the G8 summit, the level of threat was downgraded just a few days ago. In other words they got it wrong again. These are the folks whose advice is used to justify all kinds of things that the government can't otherwise justify like going to war and detaining people without trial. If they are as useless as they seem that's pretty worrying.

In non-terror related news I got my time for 4.5km down to 24m30 this morning. Barring injury I reckon I could get down to 5 mins/km before the summer's end.

I was at UCL as well, so some of this does seem very close to home to me.
