I think "Damascene" is OK to use as generally 'Of Damascus" despite it's more specialised meaning. One can talk about a Jersey cow without people assuming she's wearing a woollie.
Once upon a time I was indeed a mathematician. I even considered doing a PhD on generalizations of Markov field theory beyond two dimensions.
