There's something about me and MP3 players

So after having two RCA Lyra MP3 players fail to work, I bought an iPod Shuffle. Guess what? This morning while I was running it packed up. Neither of our two macs recognises its existence and no strangle little lights are in evidence. It appears to be dead.
