I am curious about how many people still use fountain pens. I am old enough to remember when one was permitted no other option at school (alternative technologies being dismissed as 'slime guns') and, frankly, I still prefer the feel of a real pen. I will use roller ball or gel pens but retain a life long distaste for that evil Hungarian invention. So please answer the following short quiz:

Bright blue is the colour I seem to have most of, but I also use black and have some purple. My mum had a lovely Parker one with a converter, but it never worked properly as far back as I can remember, which was a shame. My newest (freebie) one is a slightly finer nib than I usually prefer, but it otherwise nice.

Despite owning, and occasionally using, a fountain pen, my pen of daily choice is a gel pen - I have them in a range of colours and sparkliness.

I use either gel or fibre tipped pens ("handwriting pens" sold in bulk for schools) as my handwriting is neater with those. Arthritis in my hands means I grip pens an odd way, which makes a horrible mess with a fountain pen, though I do like the feel of writing with them.

I persuaded our stationary ordering bod to buy green gel pens for work, which are cool, though usually I write in royal blue at work.

I remember buying my first fountain pen when I was about 12, to learn calligraphy. The best part of calligraphy was the feeling of the nib scratching the paper, but the mess forced me to give it up.

I think I bought my first fountain pen in 1991. I use burgundy ink mostly, brown sometimes, grey once in a while.

I have had fountain pens in the past, but these days I rarely use a pen at all. I'm always at a computer. Except for drawing, but for that I use a range of artline and rotex type pens. If I'm writing notes in meetings or whatever, I prefer to use a pencil. I recently received a ...not fountain pen but one that you dip.

I don't use a fountain pen- it's absolute hell for the left-handers amongst us ;-)

One used to be able to get special nibs for those of a sinister persuasion. The process of writing though looks extremely awkward and almost bound to result in RSI.

I use many many fountain pens of all varieties, though not as often now as I did a couple of years ago. I checked my most common answers.

When not using black I tend to use pink (trademark pen colour), green or royal blue.

I always use a fountain pen to write letters to two of my friends (we write very old-fashioned, proper letters, on nice stationery and with good pens -- it's great fun!) but beyond that, I use mine for calligraphy.
