Cake

I made a cake yesterday. This is most unusual as I just don't bake. It's a "shooting cake" and I inherited the recipe from my ex. Whether she picked it up at Dougarie or Raveningham I don't know but it must have been one of the two I think.

Is it a cake made to take out on a day's shooting, like from a hunting lodge? I'm imagining something like a boiled fruit cake.

It is essentially a boiled fruit cake. Fruit, sugar, spice is simmered and then made into a batter with flour and eggs and baking powder which is then baked. The sort of thing one would put in a picnic lunch with salmon sandwiches and game pie.
