1. After your first language, what language would you most like to learn? (Say first language too)
   My first language is English. I sort of speak French though not as well as when I lived in Ottawa.  I would really like to improve my German to something more useable.  I fantasise about learning Welsh.
    
2. Does your country have a second language? What is it?
   Indeed.  French is the second official language but there are hundreds of indigenous languages that deserve more recognition.
    
3. How many languages can you count to 5 in? To 10 in? List them.
   I can count pretty much to infinity in English, French and German.  I can count to five in Italian and various traditional, probably Cymric, systems for enumerating sheep.
    
4. What is the first overseas country you visited? And from where? (ie/ timbuctoo to mars)
   It was from the UK and it was either France or Spain.  Spain I think.
    
5. What country do you most want to visit? And why?
   There are countries I would like to go back to; Peru, Thailand, Germany, Sweden.  I've had only the briefest and oddest exposure to Mexico; stopovers at Mexico City airport and the GM plant in Matamoros.  I'd like to see more.  The history and the food are big attractions.  Of places I've never been Iceland tops the list for pretty much every reason except the food.

I ought to learn some Welsh as we now live in a border area where it's widely spoken. I know good day and good morning plus one very rude phrase and that's it at present :o)

Welsh has its difficulties but I personally found German much harder - three genders rather than two; umpteen ways of forming the plural like Welsh but all the cases in addition. And past tenses of German strong verbs...

The plan is to go to Peru this summer. Any recommendations (other than the obvious)?

You should absolutely go to Mexico. I've been twice and loved it. Though in Mexico City, I stayed next to Objectively the Best Taco Stand In the Fucking World, at which I ate practically every day at least once, so I didn't get exposed to as much of the variety of food as I ought to have.

The obvious is I suppose Cusco and the Sacred Valley but I think a lot of people only do the very obvious there. It's amazing. Do all the sites not just Macchu Picchu. You can get a discounted thing that gets you into everything quite cheaply. It's worth joining the South American Explorers Club. The Cusco location is a great place to hang out and get information plus they have a cat. Don't spend too much time in Lima. It's not that exciting and in winter the weather sucks. Barrancon is worth a visit for ceviche though. I would suggest being a vegan in Peru is about as easy as in Nunavut! I wish we had gone to Arequipa.
