That said, ENO seem to be spending all their time doing musicals.

While we ourselves personally are off to see Lampe's: 'Dragon of Wantley' in Birmingham next month! :o)

To be fair to Glyndebourne it's set in Japan immediately after WW2 and deals pretty directly with the neo-colonialist elements. That said, I was thinking more of the co-incidence of two cross-cultural weddings being celebrated at iconic English institutions on the same day.

It's been done before- the ENO did such a setting many years back and it worked not badly.

I'd always wondered about a novel in which various Puccini characters coincide including Butterfly's son, having been brought up by Kate Pinkerton (hubby having been 'accidentally' sent over the side of his ship by his men years before) coming back as a translator in the US baggage waggons and running into Prince Yamadori as a Japanese POW.
