A couple of bits of trivia:

Glyndebourne opened the season on Saturday with Madama Butterfly. Make of that what you will.

Duke of Sussex was to have been Guilford Dudley's title.

Very unadventurous for them!

That said, ENO seem to be spending all their time doing musicals.

While we ourselves personally are off to see Lampe's: 'Dragon of Wantley' in Birmingham next month! :o)

It's been done before- the ENO did such a setting many years back and it worked not badly.

I'd always wondered about a novel in which various Puccini characters coincide including Butterfly's son, having been brought up by Kate Pinkerton (hubby having been 'accidentally' sent over the side of his ship by his men years before) coming back as a translator in the US baggage waggons and running into Prince Yamadori as a Japanese POW.
