Despite all the doom and gloom...
Jun. 10th, 2018 12:03 pmUntil things started to go pear shaped I wasn't having such a bad time in Montreal. Commuting from Verdun was a PITA but I got it worked out and there were some good bits.
On one of my free days I managed to get around a fair bit of town by BIXI. Notably the Lachine Rapids

Here's the canal they built to bypass them...

That photo was taken close to the Atwater Market which is a rather fine art deco beast with lots of foodie things.

The foodie things include an Indonesian place.

Which did pretty decent Lhaksa

The nice man in the cheese store also gave me a recommendation for a great pub up on the plateau. It's the Montreal tap for Gaspésie brewery Pit Caribou and is highly recommended. This is their delicious sour beer with Mandarina hops.

They also do a mean seafood platter that includes bourgots

There was surprisingly decent beer at Les Trois Brasseurs too (in a very large glass - Kindle included for comparison) and I rather liked Brewski's in the old town too.

My final morning was spent at the Musée des Beaux Arts. There was a Picasso exhibit on just like the last time I was there in the 1980s. This time it was looking at the relationship between non-European art, Picasso and contemporary African (or African-xyz) artists.

I also saw some cool stuff in the contemporary galleries. I'm not sure about Monkeyman but I loved Kent Monckman's work, especially his video on the death of Modernism.
