Fleece (the stuff made from soda bottles rather than sheep) is a wonderful thing. It first came into my life about 25 years ago when it's use was still pretty much confined to oil rig workers and mountaineers. Since then I have owned fleece jackets, trousers, hats, balaclavas, gloves and even blankets. I would guess that of all the garments I own my basic fleece jacket gets worn more than anything else. It is the perfect warm layer; it isn't sensitive to moisture, it takes almost unlimited abuse and you can even roll a jacket up and use it as a pillow.

And all this from recycled soda bottles.

Makes good cat toys as well. I went out and bought 30cm of very cheap fleece from John Lewis, sewed strips into long skinny or short fat tubes, inserted a bell and closed the end. There was enough for about a dozen, though I only made 4 to begin with, when those get icky I will retrieve the bells and make new ones. Charlie *loves* them you can't go wrong at 40p a piece!

Craig prefers fake feather boas. I think I paid £1 a metre for those (then cut them up).

Please excuse my curiosity.

Are your cats named after The Proclaimers, or is it a coincidence?

They are indeed named after the Proclaimers. My husband is from Glenrothes, which is where they went to school (though they are from Auchtermuchty). In, I think, 1987 his Dad was "minder" for the boys while they were campaigning in Fife for the Scottish National Party (the ILs are long time nationalists). They went to my ILs for dinner.

Charlie is also named after a series of public service TV ads in the UK. Craig, however, is entirely Proclaimer!

That is pretty cool. And I am very smug that I actually got that!
