My copy of the Folio Society's Paradise Lost with the Blake illustrations have arrived. I am quite impressed. Iy is definitely one of the more impressive commercial litho books I have seen. It is very large format (i.e. won't fit on the bookshelves), printed on heavy paper; a marked weave on the text pages and almost a smooth cardstock for the illustrations, and beautifully bound; green goatskin and gold silk moire. I shall have to read it to keep me going until [livejournal.com profile] lemur_catta finishes The Way by Swann's.

Those books make me drool. I'd be afraid of touching one!

Its a dilemma. Leather bindings like being touched, paper (especially older acidic types) don't. In the last analysis though, reading a fine book is in part a tactile experience.
