Another rugby and cricket day

chickenfeetI spent an enjoyable Sunday morning listening to the cricket from Trent Bridge. Unfortunately I had to leave with England needing a hundred or so to win to head out to Ajax for rugby.
It was rather a good game. Essentially it was a strongish Peterborough side versus an odds and sods assortment from Cobourg, Ajax and various Toronto teams. I think we had 25 or 26 players on our squad so I figured (it being a 4x15 minute game) that I could plan on going flat out for two of the four periods and likely sit out the other two. It didn't turn out that way. I started at blind side flank for the Odds and Sods and came off after about 15 minutes of what must have been a much longer than 15 minute first period. Then at the break Peterborough had a couple of injuries and so I went in at no. 8 for them. That was great because I rarely get to play 8 and I enjoy it. I lasted until early in the 4th period when I had to go off after a bang to the knee that i couldn't run off. I did get my first score of the season though. It was a rather nice if classic play. 5m scrum, no. 8 pick up (me) going openside dtraight into the fly half (not sure what their openside was doing), offload in the tackle to the scrum half, he bashes it up another metre or and lays it back. Pick and go from me into about three tacklers but close enough to the line to twist in the tackle and reach out with my left hand to just about get downward pressure.
After the game I was talking to the Saracens' old boys captain and he said he'd come across my name in some consulting context so he asked what I did. I told him a little about my experience including mentioning my time at AT Kearney. Then he came out with the "I knew I'd met you somewhere before" line. Apparently I interviewed him when he was graduating from the MBA programme at York.
And so home to wine and pizza.
