Another heavy duty buying trip to the St. Lawrence market. Today's swag included a five pound slab of Hungarian bacon, a cured pork loin (rather like Bayonne ham but a quarter of the price!), hot, smoked, Hungarian sausage, an octopus, Boerewors, duck sausage and assorted local veggies.

Amusing conversations with Hungarian butcher and with a rather shocked looking lady who wanted to know how I was going to cook the octopus.

I just ran about 12km. Ok so most of it was at a pretty gentle pace but I finished strong and even managed to throw in a sprint at the end. I think I have this winter running thing cracked.

As I was passing Fort York Armoury I noticed that the Governor General appeared to be visiting, leastways I think the flag that was flying was the GG's standard (blue with a crowned lion holding a maple leaf). The same standard was flying on one of the limos parked outside and there were more military police about than usual Last time I saw the GG was at a performance at Opera Atelier. She and JRS sat a few rows behind us.

As the season for getting stupidly plastered approaches I would like to know your favourite cocktail/mixed drink recipes. Here are a few of mine for starters:

Dark and Stormy: Dark rum (preferably Gosling's), ginger beer (not ginger ale), ice and a slice of lime.

Pisco Sour: Pisco (Chilean grappa), fresh lime juice, sugar, ice, egg whites; all whizzed up to a froth in a blender.

I haven't thought up a name for this: Ice, generous measure of gin, dash of Pernod, slice of lemon. Either on the rocks or shaken and strained.
