The bear takes to the boards
Jan. 11th, 2004 02:24 pmA pretty good weekend. Friday dawned brutally cold in Southern Ontario and I had morning appointments around town. Out at Trillium, crossing the road from the parking lot to admin was plenty long enough to be outside.
We set off for Collingwood around 2.30 and despite some snow it wasn't too bad a drive. Up at the cottage, which is up on the plateau above Blue Mountain it was absolutely Arctic.
Saturday started cold (-20C), clear and (mercifully) still. Too cold for
lemur_catta but Laurea and I got some XC in at Scenic Caves Nordic Centre. It was very pleasant but a definite case of 'first time out for the season'. All kinds of muscles didn't want to do what I wanted them to. It was definitely a better option than going off trail at Kolapore. During the afternoon the wind got up but most of the gang went night boarding at Blue Mountain. By the time they got back around 9.30 it must have been -40 with the windchill.
lemur_catta went for a short snowshoe around the fields around dusk. It was cold!
This morning was slightly warmer (-12C) but very windy so we decided to head home. There was a lot of snow on the roads above the ski hill but it was fine once we got down to Collingwood.
One useful side effect of being at the cottage with no computer is that I managed to finish Niall Ferguson's Virtual History.
