The kitten hasn't shown much interest in canned cat food yet but we just introduced him to kibble. He's snarfing it like nobody's business though of course he has spilled it all over the place.
there's one of mine I've never been able to get interested in canned food (or kibble either - not sure WHAT she eats)... is it usual for the canned stuff to take time to get used to?
Hoover and Scruff started on development formula pretty early (4 or 5 weeks) but we never tried them on kibble. Padmini had her mom of course so I guess I don't really remember when she started to try the kibble.
My two kitten girls have given me reason to wonder whether or not kittens really need water bowls. They seemed to use their mostly as hazards in the all-bedroom-raceway and as methods for executing unwanted furry toys (death by drowning).
Kibble snarfing is a good thing. He may not be able to adequately digest the meat in canned fud yet. However, with his tiny teeth, you may want to wet the kibble down with just a bit of water to make it easier for him to chew - which may also result in less scattering.
This is Royal Canin "Babycat" kibble made for little guys like him so it should be okay without softning, you might be right about the scattering though. He really seemed to want something to work his new teeth on so I figured he'd like it . He's digesting the wet food/milk replacer mix he gets syringe fed really well, he just doesn't seem to go for it on his own from the bowl . He enjoys stepping in the bowl and tipping it over , of course ;) We'll see how he handles the kibble gradually over the next week or so. He sure seems enthusiastic about it.
