Conditioning
Feb. 15th, 2005 07:43 amAs part of my attempt to get reasonably fit again, I was persuaded by
lemur_catta to take the conditioning class at the circus school. This class is focussed on core body strength and endurance which is quite different from anything I have done before. It's probably a good thing as I am conscious that I have never been as strong as I would like through the lower back and upper body.
Right now, for me, I am quite unfit. The ankle problems have seriously upset my exercise routine and largely as a result I am about twenty pounds overweight. None of this makes what would, in any case, be a pretty tough class any easier. Add to that, that I am probably at least ten years older than anyone else in the class but for the lemur and I'm the newbie.
I've been to three classes so far and there is no way yet I can get through an hour plus of this stuff. Last night I lasted about 45 minutes of doing maybe 2/3 of what was expected so I guess that adds up to about half a class. The good news is that it really doesn't put any strain on the ankle so I think I'll be able to work up to the full thing eventually. Now I have to work out what else I can build into my routine and whether I'm prepared to work in a limited amount of running once the weather warms up a bit.
