jez_e_bel: I think I'd get more satisfaction out of being a carpenter because wood is so much more tactile than metal. I'm probably better suited to welding though.

tanuja: Are we talking "in a state of moral or cultural deterioration" or merely "self indulgent" here? I think if we are talking "cultural deterioration" then my choice must be really bad horror movies, if "self indulgence" then really good red wine. if "moral deterioration" I'll have to plead the fifth!

Carpentry requires more precision, touch type skills I think. I'm not so strong in that area. I tend to be better when it's a question of figuring out how to make the technology do what you want.

Wood is tricky stuff, or at least it seems so to me. I can do rough carpentry OK but precision cabinet work is beyond my skills.

It does depend. I have a particular fondness for good Bordeaux, especially St. Julien.
