Someone from the Plexus Institute just called to ask me to explain my hypothesis that the social limits to computing may be more of a rate limiting factor than the theoretical limitations of Turing machines. I shall be most interested to see how she summarizes my post-prandial prognostications.

I'm pretty much an ignoramus when it comes to all that stuff,
but have you read 'Diamond Age' by Neal Stephenson?
My only exposure to Turing Machines, but a pretty cool one at that....

I'll keep an eye out for it. I like "The Emperor's New Mind" by Roger Penrose on man/machine issues.

My guess is, if you don't mind fiction, you'll really like Neal Stephenson, especially "Cryptonomicon", which I haven't read but my computer-geek super-intelligent boyfriend LOVES (and he's not a big fiction fan.)
