I would say that you'll never prise the urn from the Aussies' hands until the umpires have pulled up the stumps and headed off.

Except that, of course, the Aussies never prised it out of MCC's hands in the first place. It would be really amusing if it finally goes to this exhibition Down Under just after Australia lose their moral claim to have it.

Funny things, ashes. Some years ago we scattered the ashes of a rugby buddy on the field before a game. Twelve months later the city dug the field up to build the Western Trunk Sewer.

And constant rumours about the future of Old Trafford are inclining me to the view that Blind Tarn under Dow Crag would be a safer bet. Might as well go somewhere that's supposed to be under water.
