It appears that coming soon to a theatre near you is the Magic Roundabout does Lord of the Rings. This would be bizarre enough without the fact that apparently Judy Dench and Ian McKellen are involved in this thing. I can only assume, given her recent, rather extensive, list of dodgy films that her Dameship was once bitten by Michael Caine.

In a vaguely recent interview, Judi Dench said she doesn't read plays (or, presumably, movies) before agreeing to do them. She just does them because people ask her too. Really, I'm impressed that her career was worked out as well as it has, under the circumstances.

It looks disappointingly unstrange. Apparently this particular animated character must have been reworked and become re-popular recently and it isn't really a retro-magic roundabout spoof of LOTR, but maybe you already knew that...anyway..no drug addled rabbits to be found here..alas...

Doogal isn't a remake, it's the Brit/French version of The Magic Roundabout dubbed for an American audience. Because, of course, the Hollywood Execs don't believe that a film will succeed in the US, unless it's got American voices :sigh:

Still, it's paid the rent for Dame Judy's house(s) for this month!
