Various technical discussions about Cheney's lawyer hunting habits ended up with me, uncharacteristically, parked at a web site that sold ammunition. This caused me to wonder just what one could buy with out undue difficulty via the 'net.

The first thing that popped up was a US government program for selling M1 Garand rifles. They seem to have a lot of these but still feel the need to restrict sales to eight per year to any given customer.

Finding it easy to buy M14s, M16s (some still with burst capability), AK47s, Uzis and all manner of other personal weapons I got a bit more ambitious. Surprisingly, the US doesn't seem to be a great place to buy heavy weapons but there are several dealers in the UK with an impressive array of potential giftware. I was particularly drawn to the chap who had three T72s for sale. Sometimes it seems like everyone has a Hummer these days and a T72 is just what one needs to maintain cutting edge suburban soccer mom status.

They're selling M14s?

I'm sure there is a metric shitload of M14s, FN SLRs and the like around. What surprises me is that there are so many M1s. They stopped making those in 1957.

On the other hand, if you need to buy some cold medicine that contains ephedrine, the state of New York first demands your driver's license and enters all the information in a database, every time you buy it.

You used to be able to buy a second-hand Mig on iwantoneofthose.com for about £125K, but I don't know whether you'd be able to arm it by shopping online ...

I had a quick look for air to air missiles but I suspect one needs contacts to source those.
