chickenfeet: (bear&leela)

I took the kittens in for a vet check today. Grey and white kitten has not gained any weight and was given sub-cutaneous fluids. We also have a parasite problem. The sample I took in tested positive for coccidia so they've been treated for that. I also have to give them dewormer once daily for the next week which pretty much rules out SkiBurn for me. The thing that is going to be hardest is that I have to isolate them from the bengals and Jane until we get a negative retest. In practice that means keeping the kittens in the office and the others out. Jane regards the office as pretty much her territory and is already kicking up a fuss because I won't let her in. O the joys of catparenthood.

Oh, bother!! I'm sorry - and after this lot had looked like being a relatively easy job, too. Good luck with managing them all, and I hope that the week's dosage will do the trick.

Does this mean that you'll need to get the Bengals and Jane checked, too?

Only if they develop diarrhoea. Coccidia isn't normally a problem in a healthy adult cat.

Eep. Are you syringe feeding grey/white boy now? He probably needs supplementing. You can just give him some KMR a few times a day if that's the easiest and least messy option. That should keep his fluids up. Poor little guy. He seemed to be doing okay when I saw him last :(

I got the impression from the medical records that Coccidia is what killed Jane's littermates. I'm glad you caught it in time. Maybe one of those doorway fences would at least keep the kittens in, and if high enough, deter Pad and Jane somewhat? I think it might be best to cage the kittens until they're well. I know they'll hate it but if you don't keep the area disinfected and the cats seperate they can keep passing it back and forth can't they? for the adults that might not be a big deal but for the little ones its serious.

Sorry you're having to go it alone with all this. I'll be home soon!
Love you!

I think the only difficult time keeping them separate is the early morning so I'm going to try extra precautions then. I'll keep a close eye on G&W's weight and start up KMR if necessary.

did you get the digital scale fixed?Better to err on the side of caution and at least get him to take a syringe full of water once in a while. He might find a bit of KMR a comforting treat even if he doesn't need it. Poor kittikin. Poor flustered Honeybear...*sigh*

I miss you I miss you I miss you. I bought a sexy black camisole and I want to show you what's underneath ;)

I have a working scale and I think he's gained a bit of weight. Very wet stools though. If I see any sign of distress I'll have him back into the vet.

and the wet stools are part of the reason why I'm reluctant to give him KMR
