Even The Thick of It wouldn't have dared come up with this storyline.

Worth comparing with the Sunday Times version which seems to have a quite different (if overlapping) set of 'off-the-record' sources. Wouldn't it be great if the media always named sources (ST does a bit more than the DT).

The Observer basically took the line that the marriage was already on the rocks and what tipped it over the edge (apologies for mixed metaphor) was her realising that he hadn't been fully straightforward with her.

That's not the way the party sees it: the Observer is too much in the sandal-wearing-lentil-eating-liberal Grauniad camp (headline at the start of the Comment & Opinion section: "How we move ever closer to becoming a totalitarian state") for their liking.

I'm not sure which would be sadder -- if it were a political ploy, or if it weren't.

It says something about the state of British politics that the question can even be raised.

Am I the only one who thinks it odd that the English Culture Secretary (OK, that's odd right there) appears to be wearing denim jeans?
