But black y-fronts?

Wish I'd thought of a couple of those answers. Did they do your tonsils and adenoids separately?

Yes, two years apart.

Love the Kipper Family!

Can you explain to a mere Brit what a condo actually is?

Date: 2006-03-30 08:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chickenfeet2003.livejournal.com
A condominium is a corporation that owns housing, typically an apartment building, whose shareholders are the owners of the units in the building. In effect condo owners have title to their unit and related stuff, eg parking space, storage locker, and shared title to the common areas of the building. The corporation is run by a board elected by the owners and levies a condo fee to pay for common service, maintenance of the common areas and general building upkeep.

I see. So there isn't really a Brit equivalent - leasehold wit shared freehold, I suppose?

Thanks.

I'm not aware of a Brit equivalent. I think that's one reason why the flat/apartment sector of the market is so underdeveloped.

Yes. Except to some extent in London, I suppose. But leaseholds are much less attractive than freeholds to potential owners and mortgagers alike.

Stupid really. We have a relatively lightly settled country and laws that make it easy for people to live in high rise buildings (rental or condo) and you lot are packed into a tiny island and are almost forced to live in single family houses or semi-slums.

It's all about perception. People here see blocks of flats as equivalent to semi-slums so, with the exception of a few ritzy places, mostly overlooking the Thames, we are suspicious of blocks of flats - they won't keep their value. And we have that instinct to want to barricade ourselves into our own tiny patch of territory, partly, I think, because we are such a tiny, overcrowded island.

I haven't heard that album. I have "Since Time Immoral", "The Crab Wars" and "Like a Rhinestone Ploughboy". Have you come across Les Barker and the Mrs. Ackroyd Band?

From: [identity profile] albionwood.livejournal.com
Les, yes, but Mrs Ackroyd is sadly departed. Saw Les do his thing live at the Sebastopol Celtic Festival last year - fabulous! Did you know, for example, that
"Dachshunds with erections
Can't climb stairs!"

There is also something very odd about the idea of Les at a Celtic festival

Yes, it was odd, but it worked!

Oddly, there was another fellow there from the same part of England (Lancaster?) - fellow named Pete Haworth, who now plays with a Santa Cruz band called Molly's Revenge.
