It's not much of a secret that my sympathies are left of centre. Nor is my interest in folk music particularly well hidden. So why has it taken me so long to discover Phil Ochs?
I know how you feel. This is a slightly different style but I didn't discover Elliott Smith until he was dead. And Nick Drake after that. And there are so many more now, I'm really in a big discovery phase. I think people are starting to embrace folk music as a reaction to the nausiating, torturous ass-rape that is contemporary pop/rock.
Good question. But it implies that you may also be unaware of Loafer's Glory, a fascinating radio show by Utah Phillips: http://www.utahphillips.org/loafersglory.html
It's not regularly produced now, but you can get CDs of the shows. I think you'd get a kick out of them.
KVMR, where Loafer's Glory was produced, still broadcasts quite a few folk shows: http://www.kvmr.org/ProgramSchedule.html
