We are suffering a wave of dying appliances. Currently the freezer, the toaster and the washer/dryer are all playing silly buggers. They aren't dead but they are working with roughly the reliability of a Liverpool docker. This morning the washing machine decided to go sick when I was trying to wash yesterday's peculiar filthy rugby kit. It got through a wash cycle but would not drain. After exhausting my industrial relations skills, I emptied it by hand and dumped the laundry in the bath. Naturally as soon as I started to push the thing back into place (I'd moved it out from the wall during the negotiations) the bloody thing started again. I really hate that machine.

We used to have a washer that would 'stall' before it got around to draining. I would remove the laundry, scoop out as much water as possible with an old yogurt tub, put the clothes back in and try to restart the machine - near the end of the washer's life, this involved jamming a screwdriver under the wash/spin dial to keep the machine engaged.

Just to be safe...you don't know anyone with an artificial heart, do you?

I think there's a virus. My dryer stopped on Friday night.

We have an extra toaster for you that is only about a year old and no longer used because of the Christmas gift of a toaster oven.

S'a shame you're not coming to NuTopia, as we could do the hand-off then.

Even more reason to find an evening (SOON) for Bridge! (yay!)

Let's actually make a date this time - whaddaya think?

Yes, definitely, let's do bridge. I despair of every really understanding the game but it will sure be more fun if I have company! Good thing is we can make silly little finger sandwiches without a toaster, freezer or washing machine anyway :)

I'm free Wednesday, Friday or weekend evenings. Do you want to wait until after Nutopia or try to hook up sooner?

ah wait...I just realised you already implied an answer to that last question. So the times I mentioned work with the possible exceptin of the 29th which is Big Liebowski bowling (unless we want to play bridge first and then bowl...why does that make feel like Wilma Flinstone?)

YaY! On for this Friday!

If you're both still available for a prelim bridge game this Friday, we're rarin' to go.

You guys available around 7PM? If yes, send me an e- with your addy, and we'll be there!

I won't have time to make crustless sammys (heh), but what else d'ya think would be delightfully retro we could bring?

Alternatively, if you'd prefer to wait until after NuTopia, that's cool too...

I have Hindustani Vocals class until 6:30 so I should be home by 7pm. [livejournal.com profile] chickenfeet2003 should be there slready fi you arrive slighty before me.
If it works for him it works for me. Hmm...a bag of Bridge Mix choccies and some Chex party mix
might be apropos but I think all of us are trying to be slightly well behaved in the diet department so maybe we should go with raw veggies to dip in some garlicky yogurt (or an intense Thai coconut/shrimp paste concotion if you feel even more modern and adventurous).

We could see if Chef Chickenfeet feels like resurrecting some of his mum's recipes for canapés which are probably from the right era. Some of them may not be too deadly to the diet.

Sounds yummers! If Chef Chickenfeet would be willing to cook some of his amazingly fantastic-sounding food for the meet, we could bring some wine instead! (name yer preferred vintage)

...oh, and while I try to never make a big deal out of it, I'm a L/O vegetarian (tho' G is not).

Name your poison, and we'll pick some up for Friday! I presume you have playing cards a'plenty, or would you like me to pick up a few packs of bridge cards?

Anything that had a face once. Let's also include all types of worms on that list, faceless as they are...but then I would not have eaten them when I was a carnivore either, so rather a moot point.

L/O means lacto-ovo (as you likely already knew), so I am ok with eating what comes *from* an animal, but not things *made* from animal. A fine distinction, but necessary for my gustatory conscience.

Our drier died about 6 months ago and I haven't really missed it (ditto toaster). Plus we get a nice warm feeling from saving the planet some (it was in constant use previously). Washer, though, I could not do without.
