Jane Jacobs is dead. I never met her though I know several people who knew her well. She was an important influence on how downtown Toronto has developed and especially on my neighbourhood.

I heard about this on NPR this morning. I had heard of her before, and had read part of "Death and Life." I just hope there are lots of people to carry on in the same vein.

Fortunately the kind of ideas that Jane espoused have a lot of support in Toronto.
