Went on a minor shopping expedition today to replace lost/destroyed rugby kit. My one remaining pair of wearable shorts were ripped from waistband to hem on Sunday so they aren't good for much anymore and my head protector disappeared at some point last season. In any even it had so many cuts and gouges in it that it was pretty much knackered anyway. Net swag; two new pairs of shorts and a new head protector. With a bit of luck that will see me through this season.

One of my friends carries a one-iron in his golf bag when he's playing a match, despite the fact that "no one except god can hit a one iron" as Trevino used to say. He never actually uses it, but reckons it's worth a stroke or two a round when his opponent notices it.

I do see your point but in my case both the had protector and the head serve a purpose

Hee! And the use of the one enables the preservation of the other. OK, maybe if you just make some plausible looking bite marks in the head protector...
