It really has been an odd sort of day. I was supposed to have a phone interview at 9am but that didn't happen (rescheduled for Tuesday). We took the kittens into the vet which dragged a bit and then fed them when we got home. By then it was late in the day at Edgbaston and I listened to the last few overs on the BBC before deciding to read for a while. Basically I didn't. I just curled up and went to sleep for several hours. That's probably the first time I've been able to sleep without painkillers for three weeks which says a lot more about how weary I feel than the state of my shoulder. What I need now is a crossword that isn't as bloody annoying as the last two Grauniad ones have been. What sort of word is borborygmus? Pfah!

It came up in a book I read years ago, and it's stuck in my mind ever since. Maybe you could have a system for working through the old crosswords, if a particular day's is annoying? I do that to avoid Rufus on Mondays.

I hope you can sleep again tonight.

Frankly it looks like the result of classic Grauniad proofreading. What is it? Some sort of disease?

it's a great word ... just not one that even the most erudite of readers uses as a matter of course!
