Keystone Kricket

I'm having a hard time getting enthusiastic about the England v. Sri Lanka series. It's not just that we are being given two mediocre sides playing mediocre cricket, it's that it's brainless cricket. Three times the Sri Lankan top order has failed on decent batting pitches against pretty average bowling, mostly by playing really stupid shots. Today, again, England failed to go for the jugular when the Had the Sri Lankans down and out. The sight of Flintoff bowling to Muralitharan with the sort of field one might set to Lara on 300 n.o. must have had the Australians torn between laughing and crying. Maybe that's it. It's a deep seated plot to persuade the Australians that the team they lost to last summer has been replaced with a bunch of muppets. Don't get me going on England's catching (or lack of it) at Lord's or the "deer in the headlights" batting against Muralitharan in the second innings at Edgbaston. The only good news that I can see is that England now have a bowler who actually spins the ball.
