Kyle Hogg, currently batting for Lancashire at Lord's, is the grandson of Sonny Ramahdin of calypso fame, the inventor of the doosra though he didn't give it a fancy name.

That's a connection I'd never have guessed.

And son of Willie Hogg, the pace bowler from Ulverston, though you probably did guess that bit.

Yep. Had got that one. I don't think anyone wrote a calypso about Willie though.

Damn, he's out. Still, 70's his best score. Probably won't get to 500 now.

Ha, Newby must have been stung by my lack of confidence! Got us to 505.

Now let's see what the bowlers can do. After all we're only missing 4 top seamers.

Ooh, you're ahead of me - Cricinfo hasn't got that one yet...

Five, and Durham have the first Hants man out.

Six wickets. Seven bonus points.

Ditto re Durham v Hants, who've just lost five wickets for no runs!

Eight! Hoggy's getting in on the act again.

And that's the lot. Ali skies his first ball to the keeper.

Yippee! And Durham are one wicket from victory.

That's double-good news, because Hants started this round only 11 points behind Lancs. And I was a bit nervous about them making the target when they were 71-1.

Yes but Sussex look like they are heading for a maximum points win against Yorkshire.

I noticed. Bloody Tykes, why can't they play when you need 'em?

Sheer cussedness.

I just got my email read out on the Radio London commentary on the game. They wanted to know what Lancs fans would say at Yorkshire's upcoming emergency meeting:

Listening here in Toronto. I don't know what's up with Yorkshire. They've got Vaughan and Hoggard as well as their posse of Australians playing and they are still total plonkers. I put it down to Tyke cussedness. Here are Lancs minus four front line seamers and they are doing the job. I put it down to inherently superior character.

Cheers

John
